WONTHAGGI MONSTER ENERGY MX NATIONALS
Round 3,
Wonthaggi was an industrial coal mining town, situated 2 hours south-east of Melbourne it set the scene for Round 3 of the MX Nationals. With full fields filling the 40 spaces on the starter’s gate, conditions were perfect for some great MX racing on the black sandy track.  The Kiwis flew the flag high and Cody Cooper set early pace in practice on his Suzuki with a scorching 1:48.6 lap.    Overall line honours at the end of the weekend went to Brad Anderson (MX) Ford Dale (MX2) and Kayne Lamont (MXD) Check out photos from the event on motorsport connections moorabbin Facebook site by clicking the link.  Please feel free to share the photos and don’t forget to like our site.
MSCN’s own MX Mad Marcos Dillmann along with a couple buddies from NSW decided to enter and check out what it is that makes this Wonthaggi track so special.  So Marcos loaded up his CRF450 and he and his friends Matt and John (Sydney boys, the lot of them) load up the swags and hit the road!.....Did I say “Swags”?  Yip... no budget here for fancy caravan parks, this way they get to sleep next to their beloved machines.
The black sandy track is described as Loamy (sand, clay, silt) it’s fairly fast and flowing with 3 table tops and 6 ski jumps. It was groomed to perfection for the weekend’s racing, the guys first impression was it looked good enough to eat!  Of course you know that any track no matter how nicely it’s groomed it’s going to end up bumpy, rutty and packed hard soon as the pros get into it!
So how did the 3 keen guys go...? Let’s say that no one got hurt and perhaps if Marcos hadn’t dropped the bike in the last race his overall placing would have been pretty good.  That said a good time was had by all.  A top weekend indeed!
So what about Wonthaggi now? The mines have long closed but the town’s spirit lives on. The State Coal Mine is Victoria’s only tourist coal mine and it’s recently reopened after a $4 million Government revamp.   The newly reopened mine takes visitors up to 60 meters below ground, of course if living with the worms isn’t your thing, how about a nice walk along some beautiful coast line?   the George Bass Costal Walk is a must see.  Explore and witness the power of the Bass Straight with this 7km walk.  One of the highlights is the “The Punch Bowl” this beautiful view point looks down on a massive collapsed sea cave.  Of course for those adrenalin junkies Bass Coast Paint Ball is worth checking out.
Something for everyone!
Cheers,

Mark Hinchelwood.

Adelaide made history last weekend when it hosted Australia’s first ever 1000ft Drag Race meeting.  Whilst Adelaide Raceway is not a new facility it was certainly Adelaide’s most popular facility on the weekend with people flocking from all over Australia to be part of the 1000ft fun.  So, I packed my bags and decided to get on a plane and experience it for myself.

First thing I did was a quick driving trip around the CBD to check out some of the iconic cathedrals and churches that Adelaide is famous for.    The “City of Churches” as it’s known, certainly lives up to its name and is well worth the drive.  Adelaide is very easy to navigate, but it’s landscape is so flat that trying to get your bearings using land marks is totally out of the question.  Thanks goodness for modern GPS units.

So after my little tourist drive I headed off to Adelaide International Raceway and in under 40minutes I found myself outside the Drag Strip.  It was about then that I realised how dry the area is and even with plenty of rain fall recently it’s still very dry and dusty.  This weekend saw the temperature hang around 25°-28° and with every local drag racer on hand it set the scene for some great racing.

The entertainment wasn’t just Drag Racing either with x 2 massive jumping castles for the kids, stunt bikes and a wheel standing Monaro the meeting had all the ingredients of something great!  Local politicians were also out to check it out. I’m sure they will be now thinking on what they can do to swing some votes their way from the drag racing community.

I have to also comment on the T/F action as well… Bloody fantastic!!! All the teams were smoking the tyres as they tried to read the track, it was fantastic to watch and left the crowd gob smacked.  I’ve watched plenty of nitro action over the years and can’t remember ever seeing paired Top Fuel Dragsters doing 1000ft skids-side by side!!  The weekend of racing was a roaring success and hopefully the start of getting ANDRA Drag Racing back to SA!

With a spare day to sightsee I decided to hit the road and head for the National Motor Museum situated 50 minutes from the CBD in the small town of Birdwood. It houses Australia’s biggest motoring collection, over 300 vintage, veteran, post war, classic and modern cars, commercial vehicles and over 100 motorcycles, you don’t have to be an enthusiast to appreciate the collection.     Cost is only $12.00 per adult and I found it to be great value for money.  Doors open daily from 10.00am and close at 5pm, I recommend getting there early as it can get busy and there’s lots to see.

I would also recommend you take the slight (10 minute) detour off the Princess Highway into Hahndorf.  Idyllic Hahndorf is the oldest surviving German Village in Australia and is a popular tourist destination. The historic town lies within a gentle and undulating expanse of the Adelaide Hills.  Many of the original settlers’ traditional German timber and brick cottages (fachwerk) are still standing.  Hahndorf’s historical significance to Australia has been recognised by its listing by the National Estate (1983) and as a State Heritage Area (1988).  There are hotels, restaurants, galleries, artisans at work, gourmet food outlets and a wide selection of accommodation. Authentic German food is served in Hahndorf, as well as modern Australian and European cuisine, country style cooking, great coffee and delectable cakes. German sausage and smallgoods are available. There are also Ice-cream and sweet shops for the young and young at heart. Of course I should also mention that there are wineries aplenty in the area, so there’s something for everyone no matter what floats your boat. Well worth an overnight stay.

I’m not saying this is all there is to see in Adelaide but if you’re a car nut and like a bit of culture this is a good cheap day out the whole family will like.  Its also worth mentioning the tours available which include exploring the Barossa Valley and Hahndorf.  Here is one I found online http://www.adelaidesightseeing.com.au/tours/AS10.htm

I have uploaded hundreds of photos onto our facebook site, feel free to share and use the photos, don’t forget to like our site.

Winter Nationals Wash out:   Mark and Marcos made the trip to Willowbank for this year’s Winter Nationals.  As usual MSCN had tons of great sales on over the weekend and with our new colour catalogue arriving only days before the show, this too was a big hit.  As usual the stand was packed with plenty of kiwis who had flown over the ditch for a weekend of Nitro breathing action.  Unfortunately the gods were not kind to us and the meeting was postponed. -(
What a drive home in our loaded camper – Pouring rain for nearly the whole trip (10hrs) with some roads completely flooded.   Not a nice place to be!  See you all again next year at Willowbank’s 2012 Winter Nationals.

December 2008
With the Australian dollar falling in a downward spiral we unfortunately have to raise prices to cover the 30%+ increase. The good news is that not all of our products are increasing, namely SPEEDFLOW as this is an Australian made product and has not been affected by the weak Australian dollar. They have absorbed all the price increases in aluminium and steel to hold their current price list for over two years. So as all the imported brands of hose & fittings go up, you can be assured that our Speedflow products will remain at the current price.
However, we do import certain products to fill the gaps that Speedflow do not make and then there is all our safety equipment and accessories that will be forced to go up. We have finalised our price list and will be endevouring to update our shop systems and internet prices ASAP. So now is a good time to purchase before we finish updating over the next week or so!
June 2008
